Lita Brusick Johnson has served as the Associate Executive Director of the Division for Global Mission since December 2003. Her duties include the supervision of the ELCA's international programs and unit-wide planning.

Prior to joining the staff of the Division for Global Mission, Johnson served as director of the ELCA's World Hunger and Disaster Appeal (1998- 2003); Executive Assistant to the Presiding Bishop (1987-1998, with a focus on the church's public witness, planning, budgeting, governance, and regional/synod relationships); and Assistant/Deputy Director of the Lutheran Office for Governmental Affairs (1977-1987, with a focus on church-state relationship, immigration, and poverty-related advocacy).

Johnson graduated from Valparaiso University (Valparaiso, Indiana) with a major in history. She did graduate studies in history at the University of Muenster, Germany; in medieval studies at the Pontifical Institution for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto, Canada (MA); and philanthropic studies at Indiana University. She is married and has a 22-year-old daughter.
