Stewardship

If you or your congregation is looking for stewardship resources, here are several places to begin:

1. The ELCA website

http://www.elca.org/Growing-In-Faith/Discipleship/Stewardship.aspx

The page opens showing two current resources: Make It Simple and Biblical Stewardship: Our Duty and Delight (a video course by Dr. Mark Allan Powell).

Make It Simple is the newest resource from the ELCA and provides both annual stewardship response programs and year round opportunities. Generosity and simplicity are the key themes. This resource is FREE if used on-line. DVD versions may be purchased.

Scroll down the opening page to see additional resources. The tabs on the left side of the page will take you to pages with a variety of other great tools including Competencies of a Well-formed Steward Leader, other financial response methods, and teaching tools.

Open the teaching tab and down the page on the right hand side you can download a PDF file of Awakening to God’s Call to Earthkeeping.

2. New Consecration Sunday (plus a few other suggestions)

Consecration Sunday has been used effectively by many congregations over the last ten years. An updated version is out that works just like Consecration Sunday with a few additions including a PowerPoint presentation.

This resource emphasizes that people of faith have an inner need or longing to be givers, since they have been created and redeemed in the image of a generous and giving God.

You will be tempted to eliminate parts of the program to shorten it or reduce costs, but don’t. The key is to use the full program.

New Consecration Sunday is available from Augsburg Fortress for $30.00 to $40.00 plus the cost of giving cards.

You may also want to explore the following programs:

Effective Stewardship: Building on Biblical Principles by Ken Williams. For a free video and explanation of materials: www.klwenterprises.com or call 800-805-8702. http://library.generousgiving.org/articles/display.asp?id=104 provides an interview with the author.

Quill by Gary Arnold. This program works best in large congregations where members do not have a lot of association with each other outside of worship. A manual guides the process of preparing personalized stationary, pledge cards, and other details. Obtain more information from www.quillinc.com  or 800-826-2048.

3. Luther Seminary’s Stewardship for the 21st Century

www.luthersem.edu/stewardship includes a stewardship resource database. Among the many resources you can find the story of a Lutheran church that used the Quill program. The following link takes you directly there:

4. Ecumenical Stewardship Center (of which the ELCA is a partner)

www.stewardshipresources.org will take you to the main website.
