The 2024 NWWA Synod Assembly will be held May 18, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines. During our business sessions we will elect members to various leadership positions in our synod. Your NWWA Synod Nominating Committee is beginning the process of recruiting people to fill these roles. We would like to enlist your assistance. Should you be interested or know of individuals in your congregation who may be interested, we’d like to hear from you.

The process is simple: 

  1. review the descriptions of the various positions on the synod website and
  2. fill out the online nomination form — by April 15, 2024. 

Below are the positions to be filled:

SYNOD COUNCIL (3-year terms, except for the 2-year Youth Position):

  • Young adult (18-30 years old when elected on May 18, 2024)
  • Youth (under 18 when elected on May 18, 2024)
  • Lay Female (incumbent running)
  • Lay Unrestricted (incumbent running)
  • Lay Male
  • Rostered Minister - Deacon (incumbent running)
  • Rostered Minister (may be either deacon or pastor)
  • Roster Minister (may be either deacon or pastor) (incumbent running)
  • Rostered Minister - PC/L (incumbent running)

(PC/L = person of color or whose primary language is other than English)

COMMITTEE ON DISCIPLINE (5-year term):

  • 1 Rostered Minister to complete a vacated term ending in 2025
  • 2 Rostered Ministers
  • 2 Lay Persons

CONSULTATION COMMITTEE (5-year term):

  • 2 Rostered Ministers
  • 2 Lay Persons

CHURCHWIDE ASSEMBLY (July 28–August 2, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona):

We are invited to send 9 voting members (including our synod bishop and synod vice president) to the 2025 ELCA Churchwide Assembly to be held July 28–August 2, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona. In keeping with the representational principles set by the ELCA, of the nine, at least 60% will be laypersons (45% of laypersons will be men and 45% will be women and the percentage of laypersons that is not allocated to women or men may be allocated to persons who identify as gender non-binary, gender fluid, women, men, or other genders). At least 2 will be persons of color – or persons whose primary language is other than English (PC/L); and at least 2 persons will be a youth (not yet 18 at time of election) OR a young adult (age 18-30 at time of election.)
