The NW Washington Synod is joining the Minneapolis Area Synod and others across the ELCA in becoming a “Pray Without Ceasing” community. As people who follow Jesus, we pray. Alone and together, we pray. And, in times of great change, we pray.

We can agree that 2025 has begun as a time of significant change, particularly in our federal government. Whether we agree or disagree with the changes, the very speed of the actions gives us pause. And so, we pray.

There’s nothing complicated or demanding about this initiative. Simply make a commitment as a congregation to do two things:

  • Gather for prayer in community (live, virtual, or hybrid) once each week.
  • Invite other congregations to join you in doing the same.

Many congregations are meeting at 5 p.m. (local time) on Sundays to pray together, but you can do it in whatever way and at whatever time meets your situation best. Don’t overthink it, just pray without ceasing.
