LiVE Project - Lenten Online Study Series

Between Mystic and Prophet: A Lenten Journey with Soren Kierkegaard and Howard Thurman
  • Thursday evenings in Lent 7-8:30pm, February 11 - March 18
  • Facilitators: Dr. Angela Parker and Dr. Carl Hughes

This year’s Lenten course, Between Mystic and Prophet: A Lenten Journey with Søren Kierkegaard and Howard Thurman, slows us down to reflect on how we can strengthen resilience to live resistant to the empires around us. Two companions, each in their own century and particular experience, found ways to be human in light of their Christian faith.

Kierkegaard's fierce insistence to resist following the crowds that deny our particular individuality and Thurman's deep well of contemplative, prophetic presence, and reclaiming of subjugated identities. Together they both point to a life in Christ where we can balance interiority and public faithfulness all in the same body. This is Lent we will deepen an understanding for what it means to give up something by setting aside the powers clamoring for our attention, and to welcome a renewing life only God in Christ gives.
